Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Empressa take to heat up?

Allow 5-8 minutes for it to reach the required temperature. A light will indicate when the steam is ready (you can use it sooner without steam if you wish).

Why a steam-press vs. a good hand iron?

Many people simply prefer the ease and convenience of the larger (7-10x) pressing surface of our Empressa digital steam presses. In some ways, it recreates the large steam press that dry cleaners use. You can press a large surface in one shot. Also, for people who holding an iron is difficult; the Empressa is a great alternative.

How much steam does the Empressa have?

The powerful pump system will give you more than enough steam bursts for even the toughest fabrics. Plus, the Empressa has steam buttons on both sides of the handle, handy for right or left handed users.

Does the Empressa store easily?

Yes, in fact with the head locked into the closed position (great Child safety feature as well by the way), you can stand the Empressa on its end, taking only a small amount of closet space.

Why digital? Isn’t that complicated?

The Empressa is very easy to use. The digital part of the Empressa is the PC board. For the user, it is something they don’t see so it is no more complicated than a regular (non digital) steam press. But in fact, by using a PC board instead of an analog thermostat, the Empressa has much better temperature regulation, and will give years of trouble free service.

Will the Empressa work on a variety of fabrics?

Yes, it will. With the new digital controller, it is as easy as pushing the up or down scroll button to select the correct fabric (and temperature). When it reaches the required temperature, the light indicates you are ready to press. It will press to a maximum temperature of 330ºF.

Why does it beep?

If the pressing plate is not raised within 7-10 seconds after it has been closed, it will give a warning beep to remind you to lift it (to prevent damaging the fabric).

Why is their no steam coming from the unit?

The temperature has to be set for wool, cotton or linen for the steam function to work.

What do I do for maintenance?

If you see that the top plate is dirty, you can wipe it off with a damp cloth.

How much power does the Empressa consume?

The Empressa consumes about the same power as a kettle or a regular steam iron.

Are the covers replaceable, and how easy is it to change?

Yes, there are replacement covers available, and it is very easy to change.

What is the warranty on the Empressa?

The warranty is our Reliable™ limited one-year warranty.
